Standing seam metal is one of the toughest roofs you can put on a South Florida home, and the Englert Series A1300 is the aluminum panel we install most. Aluminum doesn't rust, which makes it the right metal for salt air.
Why aluminum near the water
Steel panels are coated to resist corrosion, but near salt water a scratch or cut edge can start to rust. Aluminum doesn't. For homes on the ocean, the Intracoastal, Biscayne Bay, the canals of Fort Lauderdale or the barrier islands from Key Biscayne to Jupiter Island, we recommend aluminum, and we pair it with compatible fasteners and flashing.
What you get with the A1300
- Aluminum panels that resist salt-air corrosion.
- Concealed fasteners: no exposed screws through the panel, for a clean, modern look and fewer leak points.
- Full range of Englert factory colors, from classic whites and grays to darker modern tones.
- Sheds wind-driven rain well and handles high winds when installed to its approval.
Done right underneath
We install a high-temperature self-adhered underlayment rated for metal, such as Polyglass Polystick MTS Plus, and fasten clips to the pattern the approval requires. Metal roofs get hot in Florida sun, so the underlayment has to be rated for it.
Approved for South Florida code
In Miami-Dade and Broward (the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone), every roofing product must carry a current Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) and be installed exactly to it; elsewhere in Florida it needs Florida Product Approval. We confirm the current approval for your address before we order, install to it, and include it with your permit. What NOAs and the HVHZ mean →
Is metal worth it?
Standing seam costs more than shingles or concrete tile up front, but it lasts a long time, reflects heat and holds up in storms. It's popular on modern homes, coastal properties and for barns and outbuildings on estate properties. See metal roofing and standing seam metal roofing.

FAQ
Is aluminum or steel better for a metal roof in Florida?
Near salt water, aluminum, because it doesn't rust. Inland, coated steel can be a good, lower-cost option. We'll recommend based on your location.
Is a standing seam roof approved for Miami-Dade?
Panels must have a current Miami-Dade NOA and be installed exactly to it. We confirm the approval for the panel and color before ordering.
Are metal roofs loud in the rain?
Over a solid deck with underlayment, a standing seam roof is not much louder than other roofs inside the house.
Can you put metal on barns and guest houses too?
Yes. Standing seam is a strong fit for outbuildings, and we can match it to the main house.
