Hutchinson Island is the barrier island along the Treasure Coast, running from Fort Pierce Inlet south past Jensen Beach and Stuart to Sailfish Point. It's lined with condo buildings and oceanfront homes, with the gated Sailfish Point community at its southern tip.
Roofing on Hutchinson Island
Everything here faces constant salt spray and full exposure to storms coming off the Atlantic. We use corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing throughout, aluminum for metal roofs, and careful edge and ridge attachment.
The northern part of the island is in St. Lucie County and the southern part in Martin County, so the permit goes to whichever building department serves your address.
Condos and associations
Many island condo buildings are now planning roof work around milestone inspections and structural integrity reserve studies. We provide photo condition reports, board-ready proposals and phased schedules. See condo & HOA roofing.
Luxury and estate homes
At Sailfish Point and along the oceanfront, we install clay and concrete tile and standing seam metal and handle the community's architectural approval.
Code and permits in St. Lucie and Martin counties
St. Lucie and Martin counties is outside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone that covers Miami-Dade and Broward, but the Treasure Coast is still built to very high design wind speeds under the Florida Building Code, and it has taken direct hits, including Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004. We install systems with Florida Product Approval (and Miami-Dade NOAs where the product has one), to the same standard we use in the HVHZ. We pull the permit and schedule every inspection. Big Al's Roofing is a Florida certified roofing contractor, license #CCC1330874, valid statewide.
How we run a luxury roof project
- Walkthrough with Big Al on the roof and in the attic, with photos of what we find.
- A written, line-item proposal with the exact tile or panel, underlayment and color, plus brochures and color charts.
- Approval paperwork for your HOA, club or town: product approvals, color samples and specs.
- Protection of the property during tear-off: landscaping, pavers, pools, docks and finishes.
- Final inspection and warranty paperwork handed to you, your property manager or your architect, including for seasonal owners who are away.
