Fort Pierce is one of the oldest cities on the Treasure Coast, with historic homes near downtown, riverfront properties along the Indian River Lagoon, condos on Hutchinson Island, and commercial and industrial buildings inland.
Roofing in Fort Pierce
Many older homes here have shingle or flat roofs, often with additions where flat and sloped sections meet, one of the most common leak points we see. Near the water, salt air is the main enemy of flashing and fasteners.
St. Lucie County has seen severe storms recently, including tornadoes during Hurricane Milton in 2024. A properly fastened roof with a strong secondary water barrier is the best defense.
We also roof commercial buildings, condos and HOAs; see commercial roofing.
Code and permits in St. Lucie County
St. Lucie County is outside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone that covers Miami-Dade and Broward, but the Treasure Coast is still built to very high design wind speeds under the Florida Building Code, and it has taken direct hits, including Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004. We install systems with Florida Product Approval (and Miami-Dade NOAs where the product has one), to the same standard we use in the HVHZ. Inside the city, permits go through the City of Fort Pierce; in unincorporated areas, through St. Lucie County. We pull the permit and schedule every inspection. Big Al's Roofing is a Florida certified roofing contractor, license #CCC1330874, valid statewide.
